"These Old Testament lives are full of vital meaning to our ordinary lives. Because no life is ordinary! It is only ordinary in itself. It is extraordinary in this cooperation with God!"
Norman Grubb

Journeys of Faith is a book of the discovery of our own lives in each life from the Old Testament. You will repeatedly recognize yourself while discovering revolutionary truths about these well-known ‘friends’ from our family history!

Abraham…Isaac & Jacob…Moses…Joseph…David…Esther…Job…...

Journeys of Faith begins with Job, considered the first book written, and sets the stage for the other books. God took Job from seeing life and God from a 'consciousness of separation' to seeing with a single eye...God only! We've heard these stories told in church, Sunday school class, Bible study, Hollywood movies and in our own personal reading as we sought to understand more of God, His people and His ways. Norman Grubb makes these all too familiar stories new. They come alive because he walked the same tests of faith victorious given to these men and women by God. Much of our previous thinking and teaching about these people in Biblical history will ‘collide’ with and be expanded by Mr. Grubb’s sweeping insight and his always upward and reconciling view of life, of God and of His ways. If you have ever questioned God and His actions in the Old Testament, you will find this book will intrigue you…for you are certain to find new meaning in the One who “is upholding all things”.

As Norman talks about those who lived so long ago we see how each life expresses a similar pattern…the PROCESS of faith…as God trains them to live and walk, not by human efforts, but by trusting in Someone they could only know within. Through difficulties they discovered that God never intended them to bring about His plans for their lives. That was only His to do! Their answer was only and always to “walk by faith, not by sight.”

From Abraham through Esther we see how they learned to live in a way new to each one. With Moses we find God taking His people into a further level of His plan for humanity. Moses is most often remembered for the Ten Commandments. That was the first step of God's preparation to reveal to them their sin. But His greatest accomplishment through Moses was the building of the Tabernacle, the outer representation of the true tabernacle – people – who are “temples of the living God.” Through God’s interaction with him Moses became settled in knowing that he spoke and acted as God to the people, and ultimately that he was an intercessor for them. Moses’ intercession made the way for the Israelites to enter the Promised Land. What a picture of the coming Christ – the Intercessor for us! God prepares us through the law, which exposes our sin, in order to move into a new relationship with Him – one of grace and mercy and freedom – knowing “I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me” – a living tabernacle with the living God inside!

Norman’s motto was “Not God and…but God only!” He continually saw a life of unity…oneness…union. This is what you will experience throughout Old Testament Journeys of Faith, Their lives...and our lives!

I picked up this inexpensive eBook because the author had been recommended to me and because I enjoy delving into the lives of Bible heroes. Little did I realize this book would be so much more than Bible biographies.

Norman Grubb carefully explores the progress of faith in each person’s life, showing how Job, Joseph, and others grew in their faith toward God. He pointed out the different events that served as turning points in their progression of faith. But he amazingly weaves New Testament principles into each life event, making the truth come alive in relevance for us today.

This book was 432 pages long, although on my Kindle, it was considerably longer. This isn’t a quick read, but the content is meant to be slowly processed for our own spiritual growth. Yes, there were occasional parts where the author got a little long-winded, but considering these were transcripts of talks he gave, it’s understandable.

It’s not a difficult book. It’s quite conversational and understandable to the average reader (no theological jargon). I’d recommend it for anyone who wants a New Testament perspective on Old Testament heroes or for anyone who wants to begin to understand how spiritual growth works in our lives—some things never change.

All of Norman Grubbs books are inciteful and amazing....allot of material you won't get elsewhere!
I highly recommend any of Norman Grubb's writings to anyone who is hungry to draw closer to our Lord. He married into C T Studd's family, who was an early missionary (by faith, not supported by a society) in the Congo, and was a giant of the Christian Faith. Norman apprenticed in the school of faith doing works of faith in his father-in law's ministry, I would say he learned the lessons well. He became a life-long disciple and teacher of Jesus Christ, writing many very personally experienced lessons in these small books. They only take a little while to read, but they are rich spiritual food for those who want to switch from 'baby-food' to meat.
OLD TESTAMENT JOURNEYS OF FAITH.

Does living the Christian life seem impossible to you. Have you felt like giving up lately being a “Christian”? Let me share the secret I learned from Norman Grubb....– it is IMPOSSIBLE to live the Christian life – ON YOUR OWN!

Norman had been asking God to make him a better servant. When God send him as a missionary to Africa, he felt he had a lack of love to love the natives he encountered in the mission fields. Furthermore, he felt he lacked the faith and power to serve God in Africa. He admitted there was much more profession than possession. He experienced more defeat then victory until God revealed the way to "Christian living". The Spirit revealed to Norman that Jesus did not say, "I have the life to give you" — but, "I am the life." Norman saw that the only reason for the existence of the entire creation is to contain the Creator!

The Christian’s secret to a consistent life is for Christ to live His life through us “I have been crucified with Christ and I myself no longer live, but Christ lives in me. And the REAL life I now have within this body is a result of my trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me” (Galatians 220). Norman saw how God took ordinary men and women in the Bible and transformed them from a life of defeat to one that overcame. He shares this transformation in 'Journeys of Faith'.

'Journeys of Faith' is a witness account of the patriots of the Old Testament Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Joseph, David, Esther and Job to name a few. 'Journeys of Faith' is a book of the discovery of my own personal struggle and subsequent victory as experienced by each of the patriot in their own journeys of faith ...... until they discovered the revolutionary truth ...."Not God and .....BUT GOD ONLY!".

If you have ever questioned God and His actions in your life, this book will intrigue you...for you are certain to find new meaning in the One who "is upholding all things".

Norman Grubb used to say, “Don’t be a see-atter; be a see-througher!” He was talking about having single sight, or single-eye seeing. Single-eye seeing is simply seeing that God is purposely at work in everything, so that every negative event is perfectly purposed by God to bring about the positive which is the original intent of God. The negatives in your life is part of the path of God to take you upwards into real Christian living.

I was not born a Christian but found Him when I was searching for TRUTH. "Who am I? Why was I born? Does life have meaning? Is there a God? What happens after death?"

Than one day Truth revealed "Himself" in the form of Jesus Christ. However, after I became a Christian, it was a constant struggle. Although Jesus Christ had given me a "manual" - the Bible.....but I could not live up to the standards demanded in the Bible. For years I was a struggling to live the "Christian Life" until I found the revolutionary life changing secrets though the writings of Norman Grubb. It is no longer I but Christ living in me. Truth is Christ in Me!

Let me close by sharing revelation from just one of the patriots mentioned in 'Journeys of Faith' - Job

"What are we to learn from Job? That by one means or another God takes us along similar ways He took the patriots. By impact of the evil, the opposite, we come into a unified outlook which forces us into saying, "It isn't only the good from God; it is ALL from God.".

You cannot live the Christian life. The Christian’s secret to a consistent life is for Christ to live His life through us, Galatians 220.

Hope you too will find the book a blessing as I have.

"Not God and .....BUT GOD ONLY!".
